Bandages
You will leave the operating room with a bandage around your head that will cover all the treated areas of your face. The surgeon will remove it 24 hours later.

Amount of pain
Moderate.

Removal of the stitches
Between 7 and 14 days after the surgery.

Bruises and swelling
The swelling may last about one month. Bruises may appear, especially below the eyes. They reach their peak during the first week and then they diminish progressively. Your features will be distorted and your facial gestures somehow stiff. Cold compresses greatly accelerate the healing process. During some days you will have to sleep with your head elevated, half seated.

Scars
The resulting scar will be concealed by your hair, except on the periauricular area (around the ear), where it will be exposed but, once it heals completely, it will become very difficult to see due to the fact that the area heals very well.

Recovery
You will have to rest at the hotel for 48 hours, and you should bear in mind that you must not move your head too roughly. At first you may feel a certain numbness on your cheeks. You may be able to return to your social activities or job 10 days after the surgery. Some people may experience depression during the recovery period. This is very usual after any kind of surgery, regardless of its triviality. You may even feel that you made a terrible mistake in deciding to have a surgery. But you shouldn't worry. Most of the people who today are happy and satisfied with the results of a surgery have also gone through that phase.

Possible risks and complications
It is very unlikely for face lift surgery to present any complications when performed by a qualified surgeon. However, every surgical procedure, regardless of its triviality, has some risks and we should always think of them as a possibility.

• Adverse reactions to anesthesia.
• Infections, although they are very unusual if you take the right antibiotics.
• Hypertrophic scars or keloids (excessive scar tissue due to genetic traits).
• If bruises get too large, they may require drainage.
• Seromas, or fluid accumulation beneath the skin. In some cases, they may require to be drained with a syringe.
